 Guyana score NACRA Sevens double
Guyana's men celebrate winning the Caribbean Sevens championship for the fourth consecutive year

Guyana won a rare double on Sunday when the country's men's and women's teams were both victorious at the NACRA (North America Caribbean Rugby Association) Sevens championships in Mexico City, Mexico.

In defeating a strong Trinidad & Tobago side 12-10, Guyana's men secured the regional title for a fourth consecutive year.

Not to be outdone, the Guyanese women also retained their Caribbean crown over the two-day round-robin event.

The Guyana women's team proved too strong for St Lucia, Cayman, Mexico and Bahamas. St Lucia finished in second place and Mexico third.

In the men's Plate, Bahamas defeated Martinique 28-10, while in the Bowl Cayman defeated Jamaica 10-7 with a last-minute drop goal.

In the Shield host union Mexico defeated Bermuda 14-12 to claim the fifth qualifying place for the CACSO Games 2010.

The success is a further boost for Guyana as the country prepares to host next year's CACSO Sevens, where it will welcome teams from Trinidad & Tobago, Bahamas, Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Mexico.
