Sevens Players hit the Surf on Gold Coast
France's Jean-Baptiste Gobelet enjoyed the surf at the Gold Coast during the first Sevens challenge

Two days before the kick-off of the HSBC Sevens World Series 2011/12 at the Gold Coast Sevens, players from defending Series champions New Zealand, tournament hosts Australia and fellow challengers USA and France have taken to the surf in the first 'Sevens: Around the World' challenge.

Solomon King (NZ), Jesse Parahi (AUS), Jean-Baptiste Gobelet (FRA) and Peter Tiberio (USA) all had a lesson before taking to the waves on the stunning Gold Coast.

Over the coming season players from all the Sevens teams participating on the World Series will be given the chance to take part in the lead-up to the nine rounds.

Solomon King is a key member of defending Australia and World Series champions, and enjoyed only his second ever time surfing.

"It was pretty cool, pretty tough out there. Probably only my second time surfing in my life though so I wasn't very good," said King, who was also looking forward to the Series opener at a new venue, Skilled Park.

"It should be exciting here on the Gold Coast, it will be heaps different to Adelaide on the beach, lots of people, heaps of Kiwis, so hopefully it will be a good tournament to play in."
