Captain Bernard Foley scores a try for Australia against Samoa during the 2010/11 HSBC Sevens World Series

The Australian Rugby Union has marked the 77-day countdown to the inaugural Gold Coast Sevens Fever Pitch tournament with the announcement of the 16 countries that will battle it out for the title.

The two-day event, which will kick off the HSBC Sevens World Series 2011/12, will be contested by seven nations in the Pacific region, four from Europe, two from the Americas, two from Africa and one from Asia.

Core Series teams Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji, England, Scotland, Wales, France, USA, Argentina, Kenya and South Africa will be joined by Japan, Tonga, Papua New Guinea and Niue.

With just 77 days to go until the Gold Coast Sevens kicks off the new World Series, planning is well underway and fans are encouraged to mark down Tuesday 18 October as the day tickets go on sale.

Tickets will be available to the public through Ticketek and start at just $39 for a Day One Adult pass, while a family of four (2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children) can pick up a two-day pass for just $158, which is less than $20 per person per day.

From 9am on Tuesday 18 October fans can purchase their tickets via the ticketek website – www.ticketek.com.au.
