This year the television coverage of the USA Sevens, round five of the HSBC Sevens World Series, will reach a wider TV audience than ever before.
The event, to be staged in Las Vegas for the third time, will be shown live or delayed-live by a record 17 international broadcasters and reach over 220 million homes in over 110 countries.
Aired live in the States by host broadcaster NBC, the Sevens is set to benefit from around 200 hours of overseas live airtime, up nearly 50% on the 2011 figure.
International broadcasters include ESPN Star offering Pan-Asian coverage, ESPN Sur in South America, Supersport across the continent of Africa, Sky in the UK and Sky New Zealand, Sportklub in Eastern Europe, Bandsport in Brazil, OSN in the Middle East, Rogers Sportsnet in Canada and other national broadcasters throughout the Pacific Islands.
Additional repeats may well double the live exposure, while further international broadcasters will also take the official highlights programme produced and made available by the IRB.
The news continues the upward curve in broadcasting for the HSBC Sevens World Series. The opening three rounds of the current Series, in Australia, Dubai and South Africa, all showed a minimum 20% increase in live coverage and takers, while the Dubai round became the most broadcast Sevens event ever.
