Kenya Sevens declare hand for Wellington
Kenya Sevens coach Mike Friday has named his squad of 12 to travel to the Hertz Sevens, round four of the HSBC Sevens World Series, to be played in New Zealand's capital Wellington on 1-2 February.
Barring injury the same players will travel on to the USA Sevens in Las Vegas the following weekend.
The squad, to be captained by Andrew Amonde, welcomes back Collins Injera, Oscar Ouma and Biko Adema after all three missed out on the last round in South Africa.
Strathmore University student Mike Wanjala, who played at the season-opening Gold Coast Sevens before missing out on Dubai and South Africa, also returns to the side.
Friday has retained Fabian Olando and Oscar Ayodi, who made their debuts in South Africa, but Lavin Asego and Humphrey Kayange are both absent, held back by work and school commitments respectively.
Kenya start in Pool B at the Westpac alongside France, Argentina and Tonga.
"We are looking forward to the challenges in the group and we respect all three teams, who all present a huge physical challenge for us," said coach, Mike Friday.
"We need to be at the top of our game to proceed out of the group. We have played and beaten the teams in the group this season so take great confidence from that. However, we cannot and will not be complacent as that is when you pay the price.
"We will work hard, seek to be accurate in how we play and represent the Shujaa lion with the desire and hunger it deserves.”
