Reaction from Canada and Tonga on scoring notable wins to qualify for the Cup quarter finals, as well as South Africa and New Zealand.
Geraint John, Canada coach
On qualifying for the Cup quarter finals with a youthful side on a day of upsets in Wellington
"It's been an interesting day - Tonga could end up topping their pool and we've qualified as well, which is obviously pleasing from our end.
"It was interesting reading the comments in the paper today saying that we're not doing well, we're not going to do anything in the pool and we'll be lucky to do anything in the Shield, so I thank the people for saying that.
"I think we've done well lately, we've always beaten core teams and that's been a goal of ours. It was a goal of ours to beat France today. We beat them three times last year and we know they've improved but to come away beating them, who are fifth in the Series at the moment, was excellent. It was a shame we didn't get that final conversion to draw the game against Australia, and then to beat Kenya, we have to be pleased with what we did today.
"All in all very pleased, especially with the players we've got. We have five who are under 20 here and I think only three players over the age of 22, so that's pleasing for our development and where we want to go in the future."
Sateki Tuipolotu, Tonga coach
On qualifying for the Cup quarter finals with wins against Fiji and Argentina, and a draw against Wales
"It's been a great day for the boys. They believed in themselves, and in the man upstairs, that they can work together as a team, and that's what they can do.
"I took this job on about a week and a half ago and, with this calibre of players, I did have a belief that we could do things at the Wellington Sevens.
"On any given day everyone can beat everyone in Sevens and if they had more competition they (Tonga) can do well. We have to be more consistent and show whoever it takes that we can be more consistent.
"I'm looking forward to tomorrow, so are the boys. We'll have a good rest tonight and go from there."
Paul Treu, South Africa coach
On finishing top of the pool with victory over England
"We can be pleased with the effort. I was happy with our tactics against England, we decided to give Cecil Afrika and Kyle Brown a break, they didn't really have a break in our first two games, and it's not about day one, it's about day two.
"It doesn't matter who you play, whether you play Fiji, Wales or Tonga, there have been so many upsets today you don't know. At the end of the day, it's what we want to achieve and how we play. You're not going to fina a better place to win a tournament, the atmosphere is just unbelievable. Winning a tournament in New Zealand is something we aspire to."
DJ Forbes, New Zealand captain
On winning all three matches on day one
"Three from three is always good, but we did have a slow start against Scotland. We picked it up against Japan, and against a good Samoa we held them out. Pleasing but a lot of room for improvement."
On the atmosphere at the Westpac
"You can see the hype of the crowd lifts the players to another level. There are some big teams who have missed out and some of the so-called minnows that are putting up a good front. We don't take anything for granted and we know that any team that plays us puts in another 50%."
On Mark Jackman
"He was chucked into the deep end but that is the only way you are going to learn to swim. Toby is a big loss, but Mark is a good footy player, we saw that today, and hopefully in the next three games we can see the best out of him."
