Afrika joins IRB Sevens for live Twitter chat
Cecil Afrika's fondest Sevens memory so far was lifting the 2011 USA Sevens Cup title

Ahead of this weekend's Hertz Sevens Cecil Afrika, who joined irbsevens.com for the first live chat on Twitter, and his South African teammates sit third in the standings, three points behind joint leaders Fiji and New Zealand.

The runners-up from the Nelson Mandela Bay South Africa Sevens are joined by England, who are just one point behind South Africa in the standings, next week's hosts USA and the Cook Islands in Pool B.

In one of the questions posed by a fan on Twitter, the new IRB Keep Rugby Clean ambassador for Rugby Sevens was asked on Twitter what he made of this weekend's tournament and the Series a whole.

"The pool is tough, but we as a team will take it one game at a time and not worry about the outcome.

"In the last three tournaments there were five different finalists and it demonstrates the competitiveness of the Series and that a lot of teams are performing well.

"It [the Series] is more exciting now because the new pool draw means you don't know who you will be playing and you have often only a few days to prepare for that. The new points system also gives all teams a chance to compete and something to play for."

Olympic carrot

Afrika was crowned IRB Sevens Player of the Year at the IRB Awards in Auckland in October after a stellar season, in which he inspired the Blitzbokke to three Cup titles and ended as the top point- and try-scorer, and he earmarked Mat Turner of England as his early tip to be nominated this year in one of his responses.

Following this weekend's Hertz Sevens the HSBC Sevens World Series heads to Las Vegas for the fifth round, where South Africa will be looking to defend their USA Sevens title - last year's Cup title Afrika's fondest Sevens memory, so far...

"My favourite memory so far was winning my first Sevens tournament in Las Vegas last year.

"But for me now I am focused on playing Sevens and becoming a part of the 2016 Olympics squad.

"They only come round once every four years and you may only get one chance to go to the Games, so if I can go there in 2016 and bring a medal home it would be a dream come true."

You can see all of Cecil's answers via the IRB Sevens Twitter account, twitter.com/irbsevens and also stay tuned for next week's live Twitter chat with USA's Miles Craigwell.
