Matawalu: Glasgow will be one of the best
Former Fiji Sevens star Nikola Matawalu is encouraging fans to head to Scotstoun Stadium this weekend for the penultimate round of the HSBC Sevens World Series.
Matawalu impressed for Fiji Sevens over the past two seasons, and scored a decisive try for Fiji in their Plate victory over Samoa in the 2011 Edinburgh Sevens.
While many Fijians would have liked the services of Matawalu this weekend, his only appearance at Scotstoun will be on Saturday as a spectator.
Having also represented the Fiji U20 side and earning a call up to the senior side, Matawalu signed for, and became a fans' favourite of, the Glasgow Warriors, who play their home matches at the home of this weekend's Emirates Airline Glasgow Sevens.
“It’ll be a very exciting tournament where awesome big teams will come, like Australia and New Zealand, and it’ll be the best tournament for families to come and watch.
“Glasgow is one of the main tournaments of the series because teams are usually fighting for places.
“Fijians can do many things in rugby, unbelievable things and there are a lot of good players who will play for them this week. There will be a lot of good action.
“We [Glasgow Warriors] are planning on coming to the sevens after the Connacht game for a parade round the stadium on Saturday lunch time.”
