Puma Sevens strengthen for Series climax
The UAR has announced a strong Argentina squad to play across the final two rounds of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Glasgow, Scotland on 4-5 May and London, England on 11-12 May.
Coach Andres Romagnoli has been able to recall Joaquín Díaz Bonilla, Francisco Merello, Diego Palma and Ignacio Pasman for the European climax to the nine-round Series.
In the seven rounds played so far Argentina have made three Cup quarter finals and failed to reach the last eight most recently in both Hong Kong and Japan, that string of results leaving them tied for eighth place in the standings with Australia.
In the pool rounds of the Emirates Airline Glasgow Sevens they face the Australians as well as Fiji and Spain, and will be looking for a strong performance heading into the final event of the Series, the Marriott London Sevens at Twickenham.
"We enter these final two rounds of the Series with the same desire and pride for the jersey as in the previous rounds, and with the players knowing that they are also playing for places at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow in June," said Romagnoli.
"Australia is a team that is playing very well. They are very physical and very good in the contact area so we'll need a big effort to beat them.
"On paper Fiji is the toughest game in the pool, but they are rotating their squad a lot this season so we really don't know what we'll be up against yet. Whatever happens, though, it will never be a weak Fiji team and we'll have to get possession of the ball against them and look to score quickly. And Spain is one of the teams who will play the qualifier in London, but they are a steady team and tough to play against."
