Sevens Series trophy makes tour of Scotland
Three weeks out from the penultimate round of the HSBC Sevens World Series, the Emirates Airline Glasgow Sevens, the World Series trophy has embarked on a tour of Scotland.
Scott Hastings has joined his brother, HSBC Ambassador Gavin, in chaperoning the coveted trophy around four cities, Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, where the event will be played at Scotstoun Stadium on 5-6 May.
“You can feel the excitement building here in Scotland and we’re having the privilege now with this tour of experiencing that energy right across the country,” said former Scotland and Lions international Scott, who is now a regular commentator for television on the World Series.
“As its birthplace, Scotland has, and always will have, a very special and unique relationship with the Game of Rugby Sevens and with over 15,000 tickets already sold Glasgow is set to be a fantastic occasion.
“I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the Sevens in places like Las Vegas and Tokyo already this season and to witness the drama and passion on the pitch and the fan festival off it has been truly remarkable.
“It now fills me with pride to see such a positive reception around Scotland for the Series trophy, which looks to be going to either defending champions New Zealand, or Fiji this season.
“The support we’re seeing also bodes well for the national team and coach Graham Shiel. Apparently ticket sales are going really well and having seen so much of this wonderful spectacle this season, I’d just urge any rugby fan not already going to Scotstoun on the first weekend of May to get themselves there!”
