The 2011 Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens is expected to be another fascinating showcase of Sevens in the 2010/11 HSBC Sevens World Series.
Although New Zealand have already won the overall title, England, South Africa, Samoa and Fiji are vying for second place whilst hosts Scotland and the remaining teams will want to end their season on a high.
But there is an extra edge on day one of the landmark 100th World Series tournament, with several 'local' derbies taking place.
Fiji face Pacific rivals Samoa in the penultimate match on 28 May after England have faced Wales, but the match at 16:54 between Spain and Portugal is expected to be just as fierce.
"The rivalry between Spain and Portugal is like the English, Welsh and Scottish. There is always a rivalry from the past," said Portugal captain Diogo Mateus.
"We have all been around for a few years so we know them and they know us very well. We are all friends off the pitch but it will definitely add some spice to the game on it."
The two teams have met five times before on the World Series with Portugal winning them all including a 33-10 victory against their neighbours in their only previous encounter iin Edinburgh in 2009.
Despite targeting a first victory against Portugal, Spain captain Pablo Feijoo also believes that following victories against core sides Kenya and USA at Twickenham last weekend his side are capable of competing at the highest level.
"It is like a football derby when we play Portugal. They are our neighbours so we want to show we are better than them," said Feijoo.
"In the past they have beaten us because they worked very hard. But now we are working as hard as them and hopefully we can beat them. It is going to be a really tough game but also a very important one for us.
"But we learned a lot of things in London and although we know our pool is very difficult with England and Wales as well as Portugal we realise we can compete with all of the teams and hopefully win one of the tough games against England or Wales, and our target is also to beat Portugal."
NEW! Rugby's Global Game
Whether it is Spain, Portugal or even Russia, Canada, Japan or Tonga, Rugby Sevens is opening a up a whole new world of Rugby opportunity.
Spain's victories against core sides USA and Kenya last week have not been uncommon this season with Portugal also memorably beating England for the first time ever at the 2010 Dubai Sevens.
In London seven of the last 10 matches on day one saw the lower seeded team topple the more favoured side, and the likes of Fiji, the eventual Cup runners-up, only narrowly beat Portugal 24-21 after the buzzer had sounded.
"It is our aim. We want to come to these tournaments and play against the top teams," added Mateus.
"From tournament to tournament we have been able to scare a few of the top teams, even last weekend against Fiji, so we feel we can win these big games and we want to do it. These teams are very experienced, very strong and very fit but we will do our best and hope to surprise them once more.
"But our pool is very tight, every team can beat the other. We will be very excited to play England, Wales and Spain. Our first objective in the tournament is to get to the Cup. We have struggled to do that so far but we always do our best to try and get that place."
