Houston in Scotland Sevens squad for Dubai
Scotland Sevens coach Phil Greening has announced his 12-man squad for rounds two and three of the HSBC Sevens World Series.
Greening's side will travel to Dubai this weekend and face pool matches with the current Series leaders Fiji, Kenya and Spain on day one at 7he Sevens on 30 November.
The side includes Edinburgh's John Houston, as well as Glasgow Warriors' James Johnstone, with Colin Gregor resuming his role as captain.
The current joint leading try scorer James Fleming, who crossed for eight tries as Scotland won the Shield at the Gold Coast Sevens, is also in the squad.
"We appreciate the opportunity to work with Edinburgh Rugby and bring an experienced and very physical sevens player into our squad," said head coach Greening.
"James [Johnstone] also has a lot of talent and we believe him being back in the international sevens environment will be good for his development as a player. Thank you to both pro-clubs for their support.”
Houston is a seasoned sevens campaigner having represented Scotland at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and more recently in the two closing legs of the 2011/12 HSBC Sevens World Series, in Glasgow and London.
Scotland Sevens will take on Kenya, who are coached by another Englishman in former England coach Mike Friday at 10.12am (local time) in their opening match,
“No match or group is easy on this circuit," added Greening
"We know Kenya, Fiji and Spain will be a huge challenge. But, I know if we play to our potential we will be able to get out of our group and progress in the Cup competition.”
After the Dubai Sevens, Scotland will travel to South Africa for the Cell C Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens on 8-9 December.
