Dubai Pool A profile (FJI, KEN, ESP, SCO)
Dennis Ombachi sprints away to score the winning try in Kenya's Cup quarter final against Australia on the Gold Coast

We profile the four teams making up Pool A at the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens, round 2 of the HSBC Sevens World Series, with key stats on the team's World Series record and a lowdown on their x-factor in Dubai.

FIJI

Played: 620
Won: 474 (76.4%)
Tournaments : 110
Debut : Series 1 - Dubai
Highest Score: 82-7 v Thailand, Hong Kong 2010

Final ranking last season: 2nd
Coach: Alifereti Dere

X-Factor: If they can win with their assistant coach, imagine what they're capable of with their full management team. Timoci Wainiqolo did a superb job on the Gold Coast, where he held the fort for Alifereti Dere. He will also have thanked his lucky stars that he had players of the calibre of Joji Raqamate and Ratu Raitini to call upon. The new captain Levani Botia provided honest work all day and now they look set to welcome back their outstanding player of the past couple of the seasons, Setefano Cakau. It promises to be explosive from Fiji and they'll need all they can find if they're to end an implausibly long drought in Dubai and win there for the first time since 1998.

KENYA

Played: 439
Won: 186 (42.70%)
Tournaments : 80
Debut : Series 1 - Dubai
Highest Score: 59 - 0 v SINGAPORE, Singapore 2005

Final ranking last season: 12th
Coach: Mike Friday

X-Factor: What a start Kenya made to the Series under their new coach Mike Friday, who will be looking for more of the same. They have find memories for the Dubai ground too, where they reached the Rugby World Cup Sevens semis in 2009 with a superb victory over Fiji. Andrew Amonde led superbly in the Gold Coast as they reached the Cup semis with David Chenge making a muscular entrance into top flight Sevens. Collins Injera was at his poaching best, as was Oscar Ouma, while Dennis Ombachi also impressed alongside veteran Horace Otieno. If Friday does now have a fit-again Humphrey Kayange at his disposal as well as Sidney Ashioya the Africans may well cause more upsets in Dubai and maintain their strong start this season.

SPAIN

Played: 106
Won: 34 (32.00%)
Tournaments : 20
Debut : Series 1 - Punta del Este
Highest Score: 38 - 0 v ZIMBABWE, London 2007

Final ranking last season: 14th
Coach: Ignacio 'Tiki' Inchausti

X-Factor: Playing their first tournament on the Series as a core side, the Spaniards were simply brilliant in Australia. Coach Inchausti had them playing slick, smart Sevens and they looked well drilled and together. Pedro Martin top scored for them with five tries, while their indomitable captain Pablo Feijoo grabbed four as they capped a fine weekend with victory against England in the Bowl final. Many of the players on Sevens duty in Dubai have been in Namibia playing a triangular 15-a-side series with Namibia and Zimbabwe, so it remains to be seen how fresh they are.

SCOTLAND

Played: 441
Won: 188 (42%)
Tournaments : 83
Debut : Series 1 - Dubai
Highest Score: 82 - 0 v SINGAPORE, Hong Kong 2006

Final ranking last season: 10th
Coach: Phil Greening

X-Factor: New coach Phil Greening labelled the Gold Coast a fact-finding mission and there's no doubt he will have learnt a lot. The Scots played well in patches with captain Colin Gregor the outstanding heart beat of the team, but they lacked the forward 'enforcer' and ball-carrier that other teams can call upon for hard yards. There's no question that when they do get the ball in space out wide they have, in James Fleming, one of the quickest and most dangerous try-scorers in the game and he currently sits join-top of the try-scoring charts this season with eight.
