Rugby Sevens retains fan accolade in Dubai
Dubai fans have voted the Rugby Sevens their favourite sporting event for the ninth time in 10 years

The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens has once again been voted the city’s top sporting event.

The sun-soaked festival of fun claimed a ninth What’s On Award, having been voted Dubai’s Favourite Sporting Event by the public.

The Dubai showpiece is the second round of the HSBC Sevens World Series and will be held this year at 7he Sevens stadium on 30 November - 1 December, with the many invitational tournaments kicking off the day before.

Launched in 2001, the What’s On Awards recognise achievement in the entertainment and hospitality industries. In the last 11 years, over two million people have cast their votes for their favourite events, concerts, restaurants, bars, clubs and festivals – and the fantastic entertainment and sporting action on offer at the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens ensured it has remained a firm favourite among Dubai residents.

Voting is conducted by the public, with all votes independently counted and audited by Jacobsons Direct Marketing Services and then counter-verified by a special panel of impartial industry experts.

“We are honoured the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens remains as popular as ever with Dubai residents,” said Gary Chapman, President Emirates Group Services and dnata.

“This is the ninth year in 10 that the tournament has won this award, which is testament to all the hard work that goes into the organisation of an event of this magnitude. Awards are a good barometer of how successful the tournament is and the backing of the rugby fans, spectators and families each year is very satisfying.

“The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens showcases the world’s best players alongside a vast range of activities to keep families entertained, all at a terrific 50,000-seat venue, 7he Sevens. The tournament offers something for everyone and I have no doubt that this year’s event will be even better than before,” added Chapman.

The festival caters for all ages and - in addition to the action on the pitch - there is a Rugby Village filled with activities for kids, a dedicated family stand and free entry for children under 12.

Tickets still available!

Tickets for this year’s Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens are available now online through and from selected Costa and MMI outlets, Virgin Megastores, Emirates Group Headquarters, dnata offices and at 7he Sevens. This year, fans can save money by buying their tickets prior to the day of the event.

As in previous years, numerous buses will be on duty to transport fans from The Sevens, back to various convenient locations across Dubai, free of charge.
